If sale price of a shirt after giving 8% discount is Rs. 161. Find the written Price. (Ans. 2012.5)
Given:
Discount Percentage = 8 %
Discount amount on shirt = Rs. 161
To Find:
Written price of shirt = ?
Written price of shirt = ?
Solution:
This problem can be solved in 3 Methods.
Method-1: Using Unitary Method (direct)
8% of discount = Rs. 161
1% of discount = `\frac{Rs. 161}{8}`
100% of discount = `\frac{Rs. 161}{8}` x100
(100% of discount = Written (marked) price )
By solving we get
Written price = Rs. 2012.5 --------------Ans.
Method-2: Using Again unitary method (percentage)
First we will find the Percentage of sale price after rebate (ie. the amount received by the shopkeeper)
Percentage of sale price after rebate = 100% - discount %
Percentage of Naeem' Profit = 100% - 8% = 92 %
Now using unitary methods
8% of the discount = Rs. 161
1% of the discount = `\frac{Rs. 161}{8}`
92% of the discount = `\frac{Rs. 161}{8}` x92
(92% of the discount = Amount received by the shopkeeper )
By solving we get
Amount received by shopkeeper = Rs. 1851.5
Written price = Amount received by shopkeeper + discount amount
Written price = Rs. 1851.5 + Rs. 161
Written price = Rs. 2012.5 --------------Ans.
Method-3: Using proportion method
Here we are given 8% discount amount is Rs. 161, for 100 % discount (will be written price) the amount will be increased. So it is a direct proportion.
So the arrows will be drawn in the same direction, no matter if drawn in a upwards or downwards direction. But it is better to draw an arrow starting from x
Now the the proportion will become
X : Rs. 161 :: 100 % : 8 %
As we know that the product of mean is equal to product of extreme of a proportion we have
X x 8 % = Rs. 161 x 100 %
or
X = `\frac{Rs. 161 x 100 %}{8 %}`
(% mean dividing by 100 will be canceled from the nominator and denominator). And simplifying we get
X = Rs. 2012.5 ------------------Ans
