Divisibility Test:
It is opten useful to whether a number is divisible by another number or not. Here are some divisibility test to help you.
1. Divisible by 2:
A number ending by 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 are divisible by 2. All even numbers are divisible by 2
Examples:
936 is divisible by 2 as its ending digit is 6.
40050 is divisible by 2 as its ending digit is 0.
4005 is not divisible by 2 as its ending digit is not 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
2. Divisible by 3:
A number is divisible by 3 if the sum all the digits of a number are divisible by 3.
Examples:
936 is divisible by 3 as the sum of its all digits i.e 9+3+6 = 18 is divisible by 3.
40050 is divisible by 3 as the sum of its all digits i.e 4+0+0+5+0 = 9 is divisible by 3.
4007 is not divisible by 3 as the sum of its all digits i.e 4+0+0+7 = 11 is not divisible by 3.
3. Divisible by 4:
A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits are divisible by 4
Examples:
320 is divisible by 4 as the last two digits i.e 20 is divisible by 4.
56724 is divisible by 4 as the last two digits i.e 24 is divisible by 4.
42034 is not divisible by 4 as the last two digits i.e 34 is not divisible by 4.
4. Divisible by 5:
A number ending by 0 or 5 are divisible by 5.
Examples:
935 is divisible by 5 as its ending digit is 5.
40050 is divisible by 5 as its ending digit is 0.
41156 is not divisible by 5 as its ending digit is not 0 or 5.
5. Divisible by 6:
A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by both 2 and 3.
Examples:
936 is divisible by 6 as it is divisible by both 2 and 3.
40050 is divisible by 6 as it is divisible by both 2 and 3.
843 is not divisible by 6 as it is divisible by 3 and not by 2.
41156 is not divisible by 6 as it is divisible by 2 and not by 3.
137 is not divisible by 6 as it is not divisible by both 2 and 3.
6. Divisible by 8:
A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits are divisible by 8
Examples:
57032 is divisible by 4 as the three digits 032 is divisible by 8.
56754 is divisible by 4 as last three digits i.e 754 is divisible by 8.
42134 is not divisible by 4 as last two i.e 134 is not divisible by 8.
7. Divisible by 9:
A number is divisible by 9 if the sum all the digits of a number are divisible by 9.
Examples:
93645 is divisible by 9 as the sum of its all digits i.e 9+3+6+4+5 = 27 is divisible by 9.
40050 is divisible by 9 as the sum of its all digits i.e 4+0+0+5+0 = 9 is divisible by 9.
14007 is not divisible by 9 as the sum of its all digits i.e 1+4+0+0+7 = 12 is not divisible by 9.
8. Divisible by 10:
A number ending by 0 are divisible by 10.
Examples:
9360 is divisible by 2 as 0 is the ending digit.
40050 is divisible by 2 as 0 is the ending digit.
4003 is not divisible by 2 as 0 is not its ending digit.
9. Divisible by 11:
A number is divisible by 11 if the difference between the sum of alternate digits is either 0 or multiples of 11.
Examples:
9449 is divisible by 11 as (9+4) - (4+9) = 13 - 13 = 0
918291 is divisible by 11 as (9+8+9) - (1+2+1) = 26 - 4 = 22 multiple of 11
4843 is not divisible by 11 as (4+8) - (4+3) = 12 - 7 = 5 ≠ 0.
