To find sale price when Marked price and discount percent are known (Problem-8: Discount)

Q. A shopkeeper sells an article having marked price Rs. 160. Find its sale price if the discount is

(i) 8%         (ii) 10%

(i) Solution:

M.P = Rs. 160
Discount = 8%

Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount = 8 % of Marked price

Discount = `frac {8}{100}times Rs. 160`  = Rs. 12.8

Now

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 160  - Rs. 12.8

Sale price Rs. 147.2 ------------Ans.

(i) Solution:

M.P = Rs. 160
Discount = 10%

Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount =10 % of Marked price

Discount = `frac {Rs. 10}{Rs. 100}times Rs. 160`  = Rs. 16

Now

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 160  - Rs. 16

Sale price Rs. 144 ------------Ans.
