To Find:


Discount = ?
Discount % = ?

Solution: 


Discount = Marked price - Sale price

Discount = Rs. 80  - Rs. 70 

Discount = Rs. 10 ------------Ans.1


Discount % = `frac {Rs. 10}{Rs. 80}times 100` 

Profit percent = 12.5 % -----------Ans.2



(ii) Given in the table: 

M.P = Rs. 100 
Discount = Rs. 20 

To Find:


S.P = ?
Discount % = ?

Solution:


Since

Discount = Marked price - Sale price

or

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 100  - Rs. 20 

Sale price Rs. 80 ------------Ans.1



Discount % `frac {Rs. 20}{Rs. 110}times 100` 

Profit percent = 20 % -----------Ans.2


(iii) Given in the table: 

M.P = Rs. 400 
Discount = 25%

To Find:


S.P = ?
Discount= ?

Solution:


We will determined the discount first. Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount = 25 % of Marked price 

Discount = `frac {Rs. 25}{Rs. 100}times Rs. 400`  Rs.100 ------Ans.1



Now 

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 400  - Rs. 100 

Sale price Rs. 300 ------------Ans.2

(iv) Given in the table: 

S.P = Rs. 180 
Discount = Rs. 20 

To Find:


M.P = ?
Discount % = ?

Solution:


Since

M.P = Sale price + Discount


C.P Rs. 180  + Rs. 20 

M.P  Rs. 200 ------------Ans.1


As

Discount % `frac {Rs. 20}{Rs. 200}times 100`

Hint: Convert both the discount into discount percent (%) and then compare it.


(i) Discount of Rs. 12 on M.P of Rs. 100

Solution: 

Since 
Discount % `frac {Rs. 12}{Rs. 100}times 100` 

Discount %  = 12 % -----------Ans.1

(ii) Discount of Rs. 110 on M. P of Rs. 1000 

Solution: 

Since 
Discount % `frac {Rs. 110}{Rs. 1000}times 100` 

Discount %  = 11 % -----------Ans.2

Thus the discount of part (1) is better discount.

3. The marked price of a fan is Rs. 1400. Find its sale price if discount is 10%.


Given: 


M.P = Rs. 1400 
Discount = 10%

To Find:


S.P = ?

Solution:


We will determined the discount first. Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount = 10 % of Marked price 

Discount = `frac {Rs. 10}{Rs. 100}times Rs. 1400`  Rs.140 



Now 

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 1400  - Rs. 140 

Sale price Rs. 1260 ------------Ans.

4. The marked price of an item is Rs. 320. It is sold for Rs. 300. Find discount.


Given:


M.P = Rs. 320 
S.P = Rs. 300 

To Find:


Discount % = ?

Solution: 


Discount = Marked price - Sale price

Discount = Rs. 320  - Rs. 300 

Discount = Rs. 20 ------------Ans.


Since 
Discount % `frac {Rs. 20}{Rs. 320}times 100` 

Discount %  = 6.25 % -----------Ans.

5. A bicycle is sold for Rs. 3500 having marked price Rs. 3600. Find discount percent. 



Given:


S.P = Rs. 3500
M.P = Rs. 3600 
 

To Find:


Discount % = ?

Solution: 


Discount = Marked price - Sale price

Discount = Rs. 3600  - Rs. 3500 

Discount = Rs. 100 ------------Ans.


Since 
Discount % `frac {Rs. 100}{Rs. 3600}times 100` 

Discount %  = 2.78 % -----------Ans.

6. An item is sold for Rs. 1800 at a discount of Rs. 200. Find its marked price and discount percent. 


Given: 

S.P = Rs. 1800 
Discount = Rs. 200 

To Find:


M.P = ?
Discount % = ?

Solution:


Since

M.P = Sale price + Discount


C.P Rs. 1800  + Rs. 200 

M.P  Rs. 2000 ------------Ans.1


As

Discount % `frac {Rs. 200}{Rs. 2000}times 100` 

Discount %  = 10 % -----------Ans.2

7. Find marked price of a bag at a discount of 12% having sale price Rs. 132.


Given:


Discount = 12 %
S.P = Rs. 132
 

To Find:


M.P = ?

Solution:

Since 

S.P = M.P - Discount

Where discount is determined on M.P, therefore

Discount = 12 % of M.P

thus

S.P = M.P - 12 % of M.P

S.P = M.P - `frac {12}{100}` M.P

S.P = (1- `frac {12}{100}`) M.P


S.P = (`frac {100 - 12}{100}`) M.P

S.P = (`frac {88}{100}`) M.P

or

M.P = (`frac {100}{88}`) S.P

M.P = (`frac {100}{88}`) Rs.132

M.P = Rs.150 ----------------Ans

8. A shopkeeper sells an article having marked price Rs. 160. Find its sale price if the discount is

(i) 8%         (ii) 10%


(i) Solution:

M.P = Rs. 160 
Discount = 8%

Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount = 8 % of Marked price 

Discount = `frac {Rs. 8}{Rs. 100}times Rs. 160`  = Rs. 12.8



Now 

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 160  - Rs. 12.8

Sale price Rs. 147.2 ------------Ans.



(i) Solution:

M.P = Rs. 160 
Discount = 10%

Since discount is determined on marked price, therefore

Discount =10 % of Marked price 

Discount = `frac {Rs. 10}{Rs. 100}times Rs. 160`  = Rs. 16



Now 

Sale price = Marked price - Discount

Sale price = Rs. 160  - Rs. 16

Sale price Rs. 144 ------------Ans.

9. A toy car is sold for Rs. 4600 at the discount of 8%. What is marked price of toy car?


Given:


S.P = Rs. 4600
Discount = 8 %
 

To Find:


M.P = ?

Solution:

Since 

S.P = M.P - Discount

Where discount is determined on M.P, therefore

Discount = 8 % of M.P

thus

S.P = M.P - 8 % of M.P

S.P = M.P - `frac {8}{100}` M.P

S.P = (1- `frac {8}{100}`) M.P


S.P = (`frac {100 - 8}{100}`) M.P

S.P = (`frac {92}{100}`) M.P

or

M.P = (`frac {100}{92}`) S.P

M.P = (`frac {100}{92}`) Rs.4600

M.P = Rs.5000 ----------------Ans.

10. A shopkeeper offers a discount of 20% on the cell phone. Find the marked Price of cell phone if its sale price is Rs. 7200.


Given:


S.P = Rs. 7200
Discount = 20 %
 

To Find:


M.P = ?

Solution:

Since 

S.P = M.P - Discount

Where discount is determined on M.P, therefore

Discount = 20 % of M.P

thus

S.P = M.P - 20 % of M.P

S.P = M.P - `frac {20}{100}` M.P

S.P = (1- `frac {20}{100}`) M.P


S.P = (`frac {100 - 20}{100}`) M.P

S.P = (`frac {80}{100}`) M.P

or

M.P = (`frac {100}{80}`) S.P

M.P = (`frac {100}{80}`) Rs.7200

M.P = Rs.9000 ----------------Ans.
